Installation Rules
This course prepares the learner for the National Examination (Paper 1 & 2) at the FET College. All Legal aspects (OSHAct), Rules and Regulations (SANS10142-1), previous exam papers and relevant codes are covered.
Gain an understanding of the:
- OSHACT
- Electrical Installation Regulations (2009)
- Electrical Machinery Regulations (2011)
- SANS 10142-1
Learn To:
- Use SANS 10142-1 as an installation guide.
- Determine earth continuity conductor size.
- Use tables to determine current carrying capacity of cables.
- Calculate voltage drop of circuits.
- Determine minimum cable size to be used for a circuit.
- Determine maximum number of conductors in a conduit.
- Determine the Loop Impedance and Prospective short circuit current at the point of installation.
Electrical Trade Test Preparation
Learn To:
- Install a conduit system and wire a domestic installation
- Wire various motor starters
- Perform testing on motors
- Do fault-finding on various motor starters
Mathematics N3
This course covers the syllabi as prescribed by Department of Higher Education and Training. It is one of the subjects that are required when registering as an Installation Electrician (Wireman’s License) at Department of Labour.
Topics covered include Exponents and Logarithms, Factors, Equations, Word Problems & Manipulation, Algebraic Graphs, Co-ordinate Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus.
All books, additional study material and some past exam papers will be provided.

Electro-technology N3
This course covers the syllabi as prescribed by Department of Higher Education and Training. It is one of the subjects that are required when registering as an Installation Electrician (Wireman’s License) at Department of Labour.
Topics covered include DC Machines (Generators, Motors and Efficiency), AC Theory (RLC Circuits etc), Transformers, Electronics and Measuring Instruments.
All books, additional study material and some past exam papers will be provided.

Programmable Logic Controllers
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC): Fundamentals
This course covers the fundamentals of PLC Controllers and gives the learner a thorough understanding of the hardware, wiring, communication, and programming principles.
Topics covered include PLC Features, Basics ((Number systems, codes, logic functions), PLC Design, Hardware, IDE, Communication protocols, Programming Principles, Programming Bit Logic Operations, Programming Basic Instruction (Timers, Counters and Comparator), Analogue Operation (Hardware, Wiring and Configuration and Scaling Instructions) and Commissioning and Operational Safety.
The learner will perform the Hardware Configuration and Programming in our fully equipped training facility under the guidance of a specialist facilitator.
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC): Intermediate (Delta)
This course expands the programming principles covered in the fundamental course of PLC Controllers and gives the learner a thorough understanding of the hardware, wiring, communication, and programming principles as applied on the latest IDE (DIADesigner) used for the Delta Controllers.
Topics covered include Overview of DIADesigner, Arithmetic Instructions, Word Logic Instructions, Conversion Instructions, Time related Instructions, Program Control Instructions, Variables(tags) and Data types, String Instructions, Function Block Design, Task Manager, Communication and Network Configuration, Network Control of Field Devices (such as VSD’s).
The learner will perform the Hardware Configuration and Programming in our fully equipped training facility under the guidance of a specialist facilitator.

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC): Advanced (Delta)
This course offers a comprehensive approach to Delta DIA PLC programming, covering intermediate and advanced concepts. Participants will acquire skills to design, implement, and troubleshoot high-performance industrial automation systems, utilizing Delta DIA’s capabilities.
The course aims to enhance expertise in the Delta DIA platform, incorporating both intermediate and advanced programming techniques.
- Learn Delta-specific programming methods, including advanced ladder logic and function blocks.
- Configure and manage digital and analog I/O systems for complex automation scenarios.
- Master advanced features such as PID control loops and modular code development.
- Integrate Delta PLCs with HMIs, SCADA systems, and third-party devices for integrated automation.
- Explore diagnostics and troubleshooting within the Delta DIA environment.
Requirements:
A foundational understanding of PLC programming, along with the completion of both Fundamentals and Intermediate courses, is recommended.
Programmable Logic Controllers(PLC): Intermediate (Siemens)
This course provides a platform-specific introduction to Siemens PLC programming, focusing on TIA Portal and advanced ladder logic techniques to enhance your capabilities in Siemens-based systems. Tailored to Siemens platforms, this course builds on fundamental programming concepts with a focus on the Siemens ecosystem. Understand Siemens-specific architecture, ladder logic instructions and programming techniques.
- Acquire the skills to work with Siemens TIA Portal for program design, simulation, and deployment.
- Learn to integrate Siemens PLCs with industrial networks and third-party devices.
- Develop expertise in diagnostic and troubleshooting tools within the Siemens environment.
Requirements:
A basic understanding of PLC programming is essential. Completion of the Fundamentals course is a prerequisite.
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC): Advanced (Siemens)
This course offers a deep dive into Siemens PLC programming, blending intermediate and advanced concepts for designing sophisticated control systems. By the end, you’ll confidently handle complex challenges with Siemens tools and platforms.
- Implement Siemens-specific ladder logic, function blocks, and structured programming.

This course provides comprehensive training on the connection, configuration, and programming of the Human Machine Interface (HMI) using Delta’s new DIAScreen software.

This course covers the connection, configuration, and parameter settings of Variable Speed Drives.
Topics covered include Drive Operating Principles, Connection, Parameter Setting (Motor parameters, Auto Tuning, Control parameter Settings, Load Application Parameter Settings. RS485 Communication Parameter Settings, Communication Parameter Settings for TCP/IP Commissioning.
